Gardening Jobs for October
- Lift Dahlia and Begonia tubers. Plant daffodils, tulips, Alliums, spring bedding plants (wallflowers and pansies)
- Sow winter windowsill herbs (Basil, Parsley) and bring a new mint cutting indoors.
- Lift and divide herbaceous perennials and take root cutting (Acanthus)
- Harvest pumpkins before frosts and bring any remaining tomatoes or peppers indoors (hang upside down) to ripen
- Winter-ize garden – re-use grow-bag as compost, dig ground, start bean trenches, wrap glue bands around the fruit trees and raise pots off the ground
- Clean and disinfect greenhouse (check heater working!), build new cold-frame, buy fleeces to protect half-hardy plants
- Clear up fallen leaves and bag up to mulch and finish off autumn lawn repairs.
- Sow green manure
- Review catalogues and order any new plants (fruit trees/bushes and perennials)
- Buy more bird food!
