Gardening Jobs for March
- Prune Mahonia (after its finished flowering), clematis, fushias (to first buds) and hydrangea paniculata
- Cut back cornus and trim the winter-flowering heathers
- Trim existing and plant the new herbaceous perennials (or lift and divide existing) – mulch!
- Weed, feed and mulch around soft fruit bushes, raspberries, etc (Note: rake around gooseberries.)
- Prep flowers beds if dry enough – weed and tidy for summer seeds (annual flowers)
- Prune and mulch around the roses
- Sowing seeds mostly indoors – annuals and veg./herbs
- Plant summer-flowering bulbs eg lilies
- Dead head pansies, daffodils as required
- Lift the last of the winter veg eg kale, parsnips.
- Start working the vegetable plot – digging in compost – when possible.
- Plant the early potatoes
- Clean and ventilate the greenhouse.
- Start slug patrols especially against Spanish slugs and weeding!
