Gardening Jobs for June
- Plant and then keep pinching out side shoots on the tomato plants and feed once the first truss is setting fruit.
- Earth up the potatoes as they grow and harvest Earlies.
- Plant out courgettes, pumpkins, tomatoes.
- Plant out beds, planters and containers with annual summer bedding plants – being frost aware initially still.
- Stake tall perennial plants.
- Lift and divide clumps of snowdrops and other bulbs.
- Pinch out the fuchsias and keep the hanging basket neat – to encourage bushier growth.
- End of June cut back the hardy geraniums to encourage new foliage and flowers.
- Top-dress patio dwarf fruit trees with fresh compost and slow-release fertiliser.
- Keep up the watering especially of newly planted plants, including trees and shrubs.
- Set up slug,squirrel and pidgeon defences and try to discourage next doors cat from rolling on the plants.
- Weeding!
